The Putnam Cutlery Company was a highly regarded American manufacturer founded in 1886 in Putnam, Connecticut.      Key Historical & Technical Highlights Product Specialty: The company manufactured high-quality kitchen and utilitarian knives of almost every description, with the specific exclusion of pocketknives and everyday table cutlery. They are most famous today among collectors for their heavy-duty Celebrated Carvers carving sets, which typically featured forged carbon steel blades and genuine stag antler handles.  The Structural Patent: A major selling point for Putnam cutlery was a valuable patented blade support mechanism owned by the company. This unique architectural feature reinforced the joint where the metal met the handle, making it virtually impossible to break or accidentally pull the knife blade out from its structural shank.  Acquisition & Legacy: In the early 1900s, Putnam Cutlery was acquired by the industrial giant Landers, Frary & Clark. Following the takeover, production of their famous carving utensils was moved to New Britain, Connecticut. The company continued to stamps blades with the historic Putnam name up through World War I, before the parent company absorbed operations into their main household lines.
