This is a product from Yamaha's SILENT Brass series, a mute specifically designed for euphonium (often compatible with baritone) for silent practice.
Unlike a regular straight mute, its main feature is the built-in microphone (pickup).

Main Features and Mechanism:
Pickup mute that fits securely into the bell.
Allows for very quiet playing (sound can be suppressed to a level that won't disturb neighbors).
The built-in microphone picks up sound, and when connected to a separately sold Personal Studio (ST7/ST9, etc.), you can practice while listening to your own sound clearly and loudly in real-time through earphones/headphones.

This allows for serious euphonium practice at home, during nighttime practice, or in dorms/apartments.
