The original story is The Marionette by science fiction author Jack Finney.
The theme song by Georges Delerue, a leading French composer who supported Truffaut's films, is particularly memorable.

One day, the spirit of Maxie, a former film actress, possesses the protagonist's wife. The once demure wife transforms into a free-spirited woman.
This is a slapstick comedy that unfolds as Maxie moves in and out of the wife's body.
Enjoy Glenn Close's dual performance!
