★A 93.6 MPH First Pitch?!★
[Card Content]
April 15, 2022 (April 16 Japan Time)
Ichiro, Special Assistant to the Chairman and Instructor for the Seattle Mariners, appeared for the ceremonial first pitch at their home game against the Houston Astros.
Ichiro's pitch in his iconic #51 uniform was far from a typical ceremonial first pitch. With 47,000 spectators focused on him for the home opener, Ichiro delivered a lightning-fast pitch with a no-windup motion, a true ZUBAN!
The ball was so powerful that it pushed back the glove of Mariners' rising star Julio Rodríguez, who was the catcher. The pitch was reported online as 93.6 mph (approx. 151 km/h) (though the Mariners' public relations later officially announced it as 84.5 mph = approx. 136 km/h), becoming a huge topic of discussion.
