422 Men's Black Haori with Crest
This is a black haori made of pure silk with three family crests, though the origin is unknown.
It is unclear whether the black haori is black-dyed or pre-dyed, but based on the embroidered crest of Maru ni Kadachi Yotsume (a crest within a circle, with a square and four eyes, embroidered as a shadow crest using keshi-nui technique), we believe it to be a pre-dyed (woven) haori.
Our reasoning is that if it were a black crested haori dyed after the white fabric was prepared, it would likely be a nukimon (a crest that is cut out or removed from the fabric).
Looking at the magnified view of the fabric weave, it appears to be a twill weave. Therefore, this haori is made of pure silk twill fabric, with three crests embroidered on the back and both back sleeves. (Photos 9-11)
Recently, the availability of black crested haori has significantly decreased.
The five-crested haori that we have been listing previously were often made of Gosen Habutae from Niigata Prefecture. However, production has ceased in Gosen City, and major black dyeing companies in Kyoto have also gone out of business.
Due to these factors, crested black habutae, including Gosen Habutae, appears to be in very short supply.
The lining of the haori is made of satin weave donza fabric, woven with a pattern of clouds floating in the night sky, pine trees, a stone-built lighthouse, and sailing ships on the sea.
(Photos 7 and 8 show the lining donza, and photos 15 and 16 show a magnified view of the twill weave of the outer fabric, photographed with a USB microscope at 60x to 250x magnification.)
Both the outer fabric and the lining are pure silk.
Dimensions (in cm):
Haori length (back): 105
Sleeve to sleeve (yuki): 64.5
Sleeve width: 32
Sleeve length: 52.5

There are stains on the hem of both front panels and on both back panels.
(Photos 1-3 and 12 show stains on the front panels, and photos 9, 12-14 show stains on the back panels.)
We have checked for stains and dirt as thoroughly as possible, but there may be instances of oversight. We appreciate your understanding.

A black haori with three embroidered crests falls into the category of semi-formal to informal wear.
While embroidered crests are considered less formal than nukimon, they are generally accepted as semi-formal wear, and in modern times, embroidered crests are often treated as formal wear in many situations.
The white haori cord (synthetic fiber) used for photography will be included.
The white haori cord has a synthetic tassel (polyester tassel) and a round silver ring.
This is a temporary fixation to prevent the tassel from becoming disarranged, and it is generally preferred to avoid showing the metal fitting, especially in formal settings. The above is an explanation from AI Copilot.
However, there are opposing views. Please refer to the descriptions of other haori for alternative perspectives.
