Vintage Anson Money Clip 1/10 Silver Overlay Embossed Plaid Engraved Initials AFH Beveled Fluted Edge  Embossed pattern of crossed lines, like plaid, onto which calligraphy letters are engraved and colored black.  The edges are beveled in concave crescent-shaped segments, or fluting.  1/10 Silver Overlay is what some call silver filled. It is 925 sterling silver over some base metal like nickel, copper or brass or a mixture.  1/10 means the surface is 925 silver but the silver portion is 10% of the entire item, thus 1/10 is 1/10th, or 10%.  Silver overlay is much thicker than electroplated silver. It can wear away, displaying the base metal underneath.  On this piece we can see some wear around the mark. It's unclear if this was scratched or worn or if the layer in this tiny bend of the clip was much thinner, due to the shape and application process. The rest of the piece is not worn in the same way, in fact, the face does not appear worn at all.
