Vintage Mexican Folk Art Dance Masks - Set of 2 Danza de los Viejitos Michoacán
Handmade
I’ve found some truly unique, weird and wonderful pieces and just had to bring them home and learn more about them. This is a pair of hand-carved wooden masks used for the famous Danza de los Viejitos (The Dance of the Little Old Men) from Michoacán, Mexico. If you haven't seen this dance, it's a total joy—dancers wear these smiling, rosy-cheeked masks and perform a high-energy routine that’s all about celebrating age and spirit. These have such a fun, kitschy energy and would be amazing in a maximalist gallery wall or for any collector of world culture and folk art. The Details: • Hand-Carved & Painted: These are solid wood with a vibrant, high-gloss pink finish and that classic Viejito toothy grin. • The Look: They are topped with soft, white hair and beards—one has a full sherpa-style wig, while the other features a long, wavy yarn beard. • Wearable or Display: They come with elastic straps and even have some foam padding added inside for comfort. They’re perfect for a theater production, a unique costume, or just a very cool conversation piece on your wall. • Size: They measure approximately 8–9 long (please see photos for the exact measurements on the tape). Condition: Great vintage condition! They show the character of handmade items with some modern comfort additions (like the foam) inside. Please see all photos for details.
