Felix the Cat is a pioneering cartoon character created in 1919 by Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer, known for being the first animated character to achieve widespread popularity and become a true cartoon superstar. This anthropomorphic black cat with a distinctive grin and white eyes starred in silent film shorts, later appearing in comic strips, TV series, and feature films. Felix was also the first licensed and mass-merchandised cartoon character, the first giant balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the first character to be broadcast on television.
