This is a piece of ancient cypress bark (hiwada) from the main shrine's roof, distributed to commemorate the Heisei Grand Rebuilding of Izumo Taisha Shrine.
During the Grand Rebuilding of Izumo Taisha Shrine, which takes place approximately once every 60 years, hundreds of thousands of cypress bark shingles are used. When the roof was re-shingled during the Heisei Grand Rebuilding, the ancient bark that had protected the main shrine from wind and rain for many years was carefully crafted into a commemorative amulet.
This ancient bark is an extremely precious item that protected Okuninushi-no-Okami for approximately 60 years.
Photo 3... Due to its age, it has been scorched and has transferred color to the paper. This is the first time it has been opened for this listing.
