[Features of Hakomiya]
It is said that Hakomiya originated from homes in cold regions like Hokkaido and Tohoku, where hearths were common. The idea was to prevent the shrine from getting dirty from soot. Nowadays, regardless of region, the main advantages are that it protects from direct dust and can be wall-mounted without a shelf.
It is highly appreciated for its ease of cleaning.
[How to enshrine Ofuda (talismans)]
In a three-shrine altar, the Jingu Taima is enshrined in the center, the Ujigami (local deity) to the right, and the Sutokei Jinja (shrine of worship) to the left.
