- As a stand for Kagami Mochi (New Year's rice cakes)
- For the Peach Festival (Hinamatsuri), display Hishi Mochi (diamond-shaped rice cakes) and white sake
- For the Iris Festival (Tango no Sekku), display Kashiwa Mochi (oak-leaf wrapped rice cakes) (in Kansai, Chimaki (rice dumplings) etc.)
- For the Star Festival (Tanabata), offer Somen noodles
- For the Full Moon Festival (Jusanya), offer Tsukimi Dango (moon-viewing dumplings)

My parents used this to display Kagami Mochi during New Year's.
