#Ama's #Prayer #Gold #Inscriptions #Charm #Cone

In the #Shima #region, Ama divers have traditionally incorporated #Seiman and #Doman , which are #amulets, into the patterns of their #tenugui (hand towels) and #isonomi (seaweed harvesting knives). Generally, the #star shape is called Seiman, and the #grid pattern is called Doman.
These amulets are sewn on with #dark blue thread or written using the #purple juice of #Nishigai shells.
They are also carved into the patterns of the isonomi.
The amulet Seiman is said to be influenced by #Abe no Seimei of #Onmyodo, and Doman by #Ashiya Doman. The star shape, being a single stroke that returns to the starting point, is believed to be an amulet that ensures divers return safely (surface) after diving, or that it wards off evil spirits by making it difficult for them to enter or exit.
