[Details]
Fujisan Komitake Shrine located at the 5th station of Mt. Fuji.
It was enshrined and founded on the summit of Mt. Komitake, a sacred site of mountain worship, in 937 (Shōhei 7), and its shrine buildings were constructed in 1465.
Komitake is an older mountain than Mt. Fuji, and Mt. Fuji took its current form through repeated eruptions with Komitake and the ancient Fuji as its foundation.
The area around the 5th station is called Tengu no Niwa (Garden of Tengu) due to legends that Tengu ruled the area, and a Tengu named Komitake Tarōbō Shōshin is enshrined as a deity of pathfinding.
