Sendai's Ise Shrine [Sakuraoka Daijingu] Reiwa 8 (2026) Children's Day Limited Goshuin
[Details]
Sakuraoka Daijingu, enshrined in Nishi Park in the heart of Sendai City.
This shrine, known as a famous cherry blossom spot, originated when Sendai Domain's First Lord, Date Masamune, invited a portion of the divine spirit from Ise Jingu in Genna 7 (1621) and enshrined it under the name Shinmei-gu.
Initially, it was located in Aramaki, Aoba Ward, Sendai City, not its current location. It was later relocated in Meiji 5 (1872) to a scenic spot overlooking Mt. Aoba and Kameoka (within Nishi Park). In Taisho 15 (1926), the shrine grounds were changed to Sakuragaoka Park on the left bank of the Hirose River, where the shrine buildings were constructed and it was relocated to its present site.
