According to the Kojiki's Kuniumi (The Birth of the Country), the enshrined deities, Great God Izanagi and Great God Izanami, were the first to make a marital vow and gave birth to the Japanese archipelago and many gods. They are the ancestors of all Japanese deities. This is the place where Great God Izanagi, having fulfilled all his divine duties, is said to have spent his remaining years. The blessings of this shrine include marital harmony, success in love, successful marriage, good relationships, matchmaking, fertility, conception, safe childbirth, and reconciliation.
