This is a shoulder rest used when carrying a portable shrine, historically known by names such as mikoshi makura, anko, and geta.

When your shoulder height doesn't match, you can place this shoulder rest between your shoulder and the carrying pole to adjust your shoulder height.
If your shoulder height doesn't match, the carrying pole can hit your neck or ears, causing pain.
One of the keys to carrying well is to keep the carrying pole firmly against your body.

This is a secret weapon recommended for petite individuals and women ☆
