This nib has ranked highly in the past for recommended pens for practicing Japanese calligraphy. As it is no longer manufactured, it is considered a rare nib.

While it can be difficult to create variations in line thickness with standard pens for Japanese calligraphy, pens like the Spoon Pen (Kabura Pen) have smooth opening and closing of the nib, making it relatively easier to vary line thickness.
Furthermore, depending on the angle of the pen, you can achieve even greater variation in thickness and boldness.
This nib is recommended for both beginners and experienced users.
Also, while I enjoy practicing calligraphy myself, among the stiffer nibs like the Bra Pen and Nihonji Pen, this one feels slightly softer and might be suitable for those with lighter writing pressure. Therefore, those with strong pressure might experience faster wear.

About the Nib Manufacturer:
Lion nibs were produced by LION, famous for office supplies, but they are no longer manufactured.

Currently available Japanese nib brands are:
Tachikawa, Nikko, and Zebra.
Nikko brand has been succeeded by Tachikawa, so there are only two manufacturers: Tachikawa and Zebra.
Zebra nibs are a popular brand, supported by instructors at the Japan Calligraphy Study Association.

There are also claims that older products have better performance.
During the period of high economic growth, around Showa 60 (1985), the production of dip pens was an astronomical figure of 1 million gross (1 gross = 144 pieces).

Nibs:
Nibs were crafted by artisans using machines, and it is said that they still use the same machines from that era. However, there are fewer artisans now, and I have heard that the skills of the artisans from that time were higher.

Furthermore, chrome-plated nibs have less deterioration and are said to retain their original performance even today.

I also enjoy practicing calligraphy, and I change my nibs depending on what I am writing.
Lion-made nibs are one of my favorite nibs.
