L'Artisan Pastellier was founded in 2000 in Albi, Tarn, France.
It was established by a chemical engineer and an art historian who felt a strong sense of crisis regarding the loss of traditional methods and techniques.
They combine the traditions of Albi, once a major production center for the natural blue dye Isatis tinctoria, with the latest technology to manufacture a wide variety of products, including water-based writing inks, soft pastels, oil pastels, watercolors, various pigments, sealing wax, and fabric dyes.
L'Artisan Pastellier's skilled artisans ensure premium quality while respecting European environmental standards.
Albi, in the Tarn department of southern France near Spain, along with Toulouse and Carcassonne, formed a great triangle for cultivating Isatis tinctoria, the plant used for blue dye, making it a historically significant region for dyes.
The city of Albi retains many traditional buildings that reflect its prosperous past.
