The eternally repeating wave pattern is a popular auspicious design, symbolizing wishes for prosperity and longevity. It is said to be derived from the name of a piece of Gagaku music.

Asagi is one of the forty-eight teas and one hundred grays. It means the color of a young leek leaf and is a representative shade of light blue in indigo dyeing.
