The cut ends are coated with commercially available plant ash.
Place them in a pan or similar container, pour boiling water over them, cover, and soak overnight. They can be eaten the next day after rinsing with water. The tips of the fronds have a less desirable texture, so please process them as you prefer, such as removing them before pouring boiling water.
