Rare Aechmea nudicaulis ‘Palatina’ Pup Aechmea nudicaulis ‘Palatina’
About the Plant
Aechmea, belonging to the Aechmea genus, are epiphytic plants distributed in tropical America. They are characterized by their rosette-shaped growth with a tubular base and spiny leaf margins. ?
Aechmea nudicaulis is a species with many variations, known for being robust and easy to grow. ? 'Palatina' is a unique variety among them, featuring beautiful deep reddish-purple tubular leaves with silver horizontal stripes. As visible in the photos, the contrast between the white banding near the leaf base and the reddish upper leaf color is very striking.
A common characteristic of Aechmea nudicaulis in general is the distinctive indentation at the base of the leaves. The leaves are hard and robust, classifying it as a hard-leaved tank bromeliad. ?
Basic Information
? Family/Genus: Bromeliaceae, Aechmea
? Origin: Central/South America, Brazil
? Type: Hard-leaved tank bromeliad (caulescent, tubular)
? Mature height varies by variety and individual, typically growing to about 30-90 cm. During the flowering season, it produces vibrant yellow flowers on a long-lasting tubular inflorescence. ?
Cultivation Tips
? Exposing it to plenty of sunlight enhances its reddish hue, resulting in a more compact and attractive appearance. However, be cautious of sunburn from direct sunlight during the summer. ?
? During the growing season, water should be stored in the tank (the central part of the leaves). In winter, discard any water from the tank immediately, even if added. ?
? To promote better coloration, it's recommended to grow it outdoors as much as possible to benefit from the temperature difference between day and night. ?
? Pups multiply vigorously via stolons (runners). ?
