Kyoto ware has its origins in the Heian period and developed significantly in the Edo period with the spread of tea ceremony culture. Kyoto became a major production center for ceramics, gathering many famous kilns, and traditions such as Kiyomizu ware and Awataguchi ware were nurtured, continuing to this day.
In Kyoto, Unraku kiln, with a history of over 120 years, is a kiln known for its unique aesthetic and reliable techniques. The soft, slightly bluish base color is a unique charm of Unraku kiln, and the original glaze Seimato (青抹陶), developed by the third generation Unraku Saito, is highly regarded as an innovative technique that has opened up new expressions in Kyoto ware. The third generation was recognized as a Kyoto City Traditional Craftsman and is also known as the first Kiyomizu-yaki Traditional Craftsman.
Among Unraku kiln's works, those featuring dragons are particularly popular, exuding a unique presence where strength and elegance coexist. The blue dragon depicted on the decorative vase of the Four Auspicious Beasts is a prime example, known as a masterpiece that expresses traditional auspicious patterns with a modern sensibility.
This Blue Dragon Husband and Wife Teacups and Teabowls is a rare piece that condenses the aesthetic and techniques of Unraku kiln. The deep Seimato color harmonizes wonderfully with the dynamism of the dragon, and its charm increases with use. This is a masterpiece that allows you to enjoy the world of Kyoto ware, where tradition and innovation coexist, in your daily life.
Although unused, there is a stain on the inside of the large teabowl (photo 10).
Other than that, there are no major chips or peeling, and the overall condition is beautiful with a good luster. We would be happy if someone who understands the slight changes due to age as a vintage item stored at home could take it.
Since there is no original box, it will be carefully packed and shipped.
Immediate purchase is welcome. Thank you.
We also have other traditional crafts and folk crafts listed separately, so please consider them as well.
