This product is created using the Honkin Makie technique, where each petal and leaf of Japan's representative beautiful flower is meticulously hand-painted with 24-karat gold, layered with shading to achieve a deep, lustrous color.

Furthermore, the camellia is finished with Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay), where thin pieces of iridescent shell (such as abalone or turban shell) are cut into patterns and embedded onto the surface of the lacquered item, creating a traditional Makie lacquered can.

The precise fit between parts is referred to as Inro in workshop and design terminology. Traditionally, handmade tea caddies were often called Inro cans due to their structure. While the tea caddy in the photo is not handmade, its lid and body fit perfectly, and its flat, flush Inro structure provides a smooth, luxurious feel.

The base can is coated with a deep, lustrous black lacquer or a delicate amber-colored lacquer that allows the base material to show through. On top of this, the Makie technique, which has continued since the Nara and Heian periods, is used to meticulously paint the petals and leaves with 24-karat gold, expressing a deep, lustrous color.

Although difficult to express in photographs, this is a deeply finished product.
