This is a Tsugaru-nuri tea caddy!
Nanako-nuri, red and black
Diameter approx. 8.5cm x Height approx. 9cm

Purchased at Ginza Mitsukoshi.
It has been carefully stored at home.
There are some rusted areas on the lid knob and the bottom of the tea caddy body.
It shows signs of use but has been cleaned and is still perfectly usable.
It comes with a box, which will be used for packaging.

Nanako-nuri (nanako-nuri) was formerly called Awatsubu-nuri (awatsubu-nuri) and is considered a special technique of varied lacquering.
After the base coat of Nanako-nuri is finished, lacquer is applied over it, and before the lacquer dries, rapeseed seeds are sprinkled all over the surface.
Just before the lacquer dries completely, the rapeseed seeds are scraped off with a spatula, leaving the imprint of each seed and creating fine, circular patterns called enmon (enmon).
The finish is in Roiro (iroiro).

This is a very rare and expensive item.
The box has scuffs and stains from storage.
There is accompanying paper, but it has some spots of discoloration.
The item itself is free of scratches and is beautiful.
The item is the tea caddy only.
