Ojin, a Nambu ironware maker founded in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, is now led by the fifth-generation successor who carries on unique techniques, preserving tradition with 10 artisans.
A characteristic of Ojin's products is the fineness and smoothness of their cast surfaces.
The casting technique for cabinet hardware, which reproduces delicate patterns without roughness, has been passed down from the previous generation. Iron kettles, pots, and decorative small items cast using the same method also have a pleasant texture.
