(Quoted from the enclosed pamphlet)
Mr. Tamakou Zokoku was a genius of his time, the founding father of Sanuki lacquerware, who left behind numerous masterpieces and laid the artistic foundation for present-day Sanuki lacquerware. This Zokoku-nuri was created by Mr. Zokoku through his comprehensive research of Chinese and Japanese lacquering techniques. The subtle beauty achieved by scattering pollen from reeds along the Tone River onto the lacquer, combined with the seemingly random lines of the sanbara (a type of woven mat), creates a unique harmony.
