The Japanese Holly tree is known as an auspicious tree that brings good fortune and success, as its name Kurogane Mochi sounds similar to Kurou naku, Kanemochi (meaning without hardship, rich). It is considered a lucky charm not only in Japan but also in China. Its popularity is also due to it being an evergreen tree that bears many red berries in winter.
