These are oak logs inoculated with shiitake mushroom spawn, grown in the backyard mountains of Kagoshima.
We inoculate the logs every March.
☆Spawn Strain: Morisangyo No. 290
We look forward to the thick, shiitake mushrooms that grow every year.
☆Strong strain, easy to grow thick shiitake mushrooms
High-quality strain used for inoculation
☆Thick shiitake mushrooms will grow next autumn.
★Size
Dimensions are shown in the images.
One log approximately 10cm x 60cm
One log approximately 8cm x 35cm
Total of 2 logs, large and small.
Typical shiitake logs are large, thick, and very heavy,
which I found very difficult to carry.
These are sized for easy carrying by women and children.
*Please excuse any irregular shapes or natural nicks and chips.
☆With approximately twice the usual amount of spawn inoculated, you can harvest thick shiitake mushrooms as early as next spring and next autumn.
The shiitake mycelium will grow from the spawn plugs and spread throughout the entire log.
Mushrooms will emerge from the entire surface of the wood, except for the cut ends.
Cultivation Period: Late October to Late March
Natural logs can yield 4-8 times more than substrate cultivation.
Furthermore, the texture and taste of shiitake mushrooms grown on substrate versus natural oak logs are significantly different.
Cultivation Method:
① Before the rainy season, place the logs on top of sleepers on the ground.
② Cover with a plastic sheet or weed barrier for frost protection and moisture retention. (Moisture will transfer from the ground.)
③ When the rainy season begins, lean the logs against the north side of your house, avoiding direct sunlight.
④ Lightly water approximately every other day.
⑤ Rotate the logs 180° every month, switching the sunny side and shady side.
Enjoy watching the shiitake mushrooms grow naturally.
(Watering and temperature/humidity control may be necessary depending on dryness and environment.)
Cultivation Environment:
Optimal Temperature: 5-23℃
Humidity: Around 75%
Avoid direct sunlight.
Our goal is home gardening that children can enjoy together.
★Harvest time and yield will vary depending on the cultivation method.
★Cultivation guide pamphlet included.
