Oats are known for their vigorous early growth, making them suitable for use as green manure, forage, or pet grass.
I personally cultivate them from autumn for wind protection and as mulch for summer vegetables. Since I have multiple cats, they are also useful for growing cat grass year-round. My friend's rabbits also enjoy them, so this year I'll try sowing them in spring as well.

[Characteristics] Fast initial growth - Strong regrowth after being eaten by pets - Leaves grow upright and pointed.
Germination optimal temperature: 15°C - 25°C. Germination is possible year-round under favorable temperature conditions.
How to use: Can be given to pets when they grow to about 10cm.
*Do not feed the seeds to pets.* No pesticides used after harvest.

[For use as green manure]
While not highly effective as a fertilizer, their deep root system is expected to improve soil physical properties such as water permeability.
[Incorporation timing] For optimal fertilizer effect from oats, incorporation before heading is recommended, as the C/N ratio is relatively low. Delayed incorporation may lead to seed setting and potential weediness.
[Incorporation method] One method is to chop with a flail mower or hammer knife mower and then till. Tilling again about 2 weeks after incorporation promotes decomposition.
