We've gathered three types of seeds that will gently prepare your soil. Rye, Oats, and Chinese Milk Vetch.
You can grow them in planters, your garden, or fields, and each has a different role. I plant them behind my flower beds.

[Rye]
? Sowing Time & Method ? March-May (It's late in the season, but still possible)
* Sow in shallow furrows 1-2 cm deep, with 1-2 cm spacing.
* Can also be grown in deep planters.
? Role ?
Its deep roots are excellent at loosening compacted soil. It grows tall, acting as a cover to suppress weeds.
? How to Use After Growing ?
* It can be a treat for birds, hamsters, rabbits, and other small animals.
* The harvested straw can be dried and used as bedding for small animals.
* It can also be dried and reused as mulch.
[Oats]
? Sowing Time & Method ? March-June (Now is the perfect time)
* Can be grown in shallow planters. Germinates quickly and grows rapidly.
? Role ?
Its fine roots spread out, improving drainage. Its sturdy stems can provide windbreak and sunshade.
? How to Use ?
* A treat for small animals. Young leaves are also favored by cats as a substitute for cat grass.
* The harvested stems can apparently be used as bedding straw and as a drying agent.
[Chinese Milk Vetch (Rengetsu)]
? Sowing Time & Method ? Originally autumn/spring sowing: March-May (Late season, but should still sprout). Sow very shallowly (5mm-1cm). Also suitable for planters.
? Role ?
* Cultivates nodule bacteria in its roots, adding nutrients (nitrogen) to the soil.
* When flowers bloom, they attract bees.
? How to Use ?
* After enjoying the flowers, till them into the soil to enrich it.
* The flowers can be pressed for crafts.
