Happy Hill is a variety that Masanobu Fukuoka, a natural farming pioneer, developed by crossing Burmese rice with Japanese heavy-headed rice varieties. It was stabilized through years of selection under the rigorous conditions of natural farming.

Mr. Fukuoka's goal was to create tough rice that grows solely by the power of nature.
Happy Hill's characteristics include its resistance to disease even without fertilizer or pesticides, its ability to grow as upland rice in fields, and its high yield with many ears per plant.

We first cultivated this variety using seeds purchased from Noguchi Seed Research Institute in 2022 and have continued to grow it until last year. No pesticides have been used at all.

[Important Notes]
The paddy rice being offered this time was not specifically cultivated for seed paddy.
It has not been sorted or disinfected. We recommend that you sort it by water flotation before planting.
Drying was done mechanically.
Germination rate has not been tested.
Since 2023, we have cultivated rice using the same conditions as this offering, sorting by water flotation (as shown in the photo) and planting the submerged grains, resulting in delicious rice.

Approximately 10-20% of the paddy rice you receive is expected to float during water sorting. As it is unsorted, we will include a little extra to compensate. However, please refrain from purchasing if you require consistent quality.
Happy Hill is a late-maturing variety. As harvest occurs from late October to November, it is not suitable for cold regions such as Tohoku and Hokkaido.

We grow this rice in paddy fields. Last year, a neighbor successfully harvested this paddy rice grown in a field after raising seedlings and transplanting them.

We will include 100 grams of 2025 Harvest Asamurasaki (black glutinous rice) paddy, grown by us, in the package. While it is said to be cultivable in fields, we have no experience growing it in fields ourselves. Since it is pesticide-free, you can also enjoy it as pop rice. Please let us know if you do not wish to receive it.
