Happy Hill (Uruchimai) Pesticide-Free Paddy Rice 50g Seed Paddy Upland Rice Field-Grown

Thank you for viewing.

Variety: 2025 Harvest Happy Hill (Uruchimai - non-glutinous rice)
Quantity: 50 grams (includes a significantly larger total amount due to being unsorted)

Happy Hill is a variety developed by natural farming pioneer Masanobu Fukuoka. He crossed Burmese rice with Japanese heavy-headed rice varieties and repeatedly selected them over many years under the strict conditions of natural farming to stabilize the strain.

Mr. Fukuoka's goal was to create tough rice that grows solely by the power of nature.
Happy Hill's characteristics include its resistance to disease even without fertilizer or pesticides, its ability to grow as upland rice in fields, and its high yield with many ears per plant.

We first cultivated this variety using seeds purchased from Noguchi Seed Research Institute in 2022 and have continued to grow it until last year. No pesticides have been used at all.

【Important Notes】
The unhulled rice (momi) being offered is not specifically cultivated for seed.
It has not been sorted or disinfected. We recommend performing water sorting before planting.
Drying was done mechanically.
Germination rate has not been tested.
Since 2023, we have cultivated rice using the same conditions as this offering, performing water sorting (as shown in the photo) and planting the submerged grains, resulting in delicious rice.

Approximately 10-20% of the unhulled rice sent to you will likely float during water sorting. We will include extra, but please refrain from purchasing if you require stable quality.
Happy Hill is a late-maturing variety. As harvest occurs from late October to November, it is not suitable for cold regions such as Tohoku and Hokkaido.

We cultivate this rice in paddy fields, but last year, a neighbor successfully harvested it by growing it in a field after raising seedlings and transplanting them.

Thank you for your consideration.

Additionally, you can enjoy this rice by dry-roasting it in a stainless steel or iron pot to make popped rice, then sprinkling it with coarse salt.
