[Cultivation Method]
■ Sprouting
Can be grown hydroponically, similar to sprouts. When growing in planters (soil), cover with about 5mm of soil.

If you want to grow them large, thin them out when about 2 true leaves appear. Ideally, aim for one plant per spot. To avoid damaging the roots by pulling, cut the stems when thinning.

■ Fertilization
Apply liquid fertilizer once a week, or a small amount of solid fertilizer once or twice a month.

■ Weeding
Weeding is necessary, similar to amaranth. Weeds tend to grow easily when sown directly, so weed between rows. Hilling (earthing up) not only reduces lodging but also increases yield, so it is recommended to hill around the base of the plants while weeding.

■ Pests and Diseases
This crop is rarely affected by diseases. Pests are usually not a problem, but aphids can sometimes occur in large numbers. There are no specific pesticides recommended.

■ Harvesting
Harvest by tearing off leaves when they reach baby leaf size.

[Uses]
Benihiyuna is also delicious in boiled dishes and soups. It's great in dressed dishes like ohitashi (blanched greens), goma-ae (sesame dressing), shira-ae (tofu dressing), and namul. It pairs well with oil and is also delicious added to stir-fried vegetables. It is rich in iron, making it especially recommended for pregnant and postpartum women.
