? Swiss Chard
Sowing period: April - October
Harvest period: Approximately 1.5 months after sowing
Swiss chard is a vegetable of the amaranth family, also known as Fudansou (everlasting greens), a convenient leafy green that grows in the summer. Its colorful leaves also make it popular as an ornamental vegetable.
Swiss chard is exceptionally nutritious, rich in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. Its taste is similar to spinach, and it can be used in a variety of recipes such as blanched dishes, salads, and butter-fried dishes.
★ How to eat
A surprisingly recommended way to eat Swiss chard is as pickles! When lightly pickled, the colorful hues stand out, and you can enjoy its crisp texture.
It pairs well with oil, and when stir-fried, it has a slightly sweet and crisp texture.
It's also recommended to quickly blanch and mix it into side dishes.
? Beets
Nutrients found in beets include the essential minerals potassium and iron, as well as folate and betaine.
Potassium is well-known for its ability to lower blood pressure by excreting sodium, and iron is known for its role in supplying oxygen to the entire body. Folate is a vitamin involved in DNA synthesis and is particularly necessary for women during pregnancy and lactation. Betaine is a nutrient that may not be as familiar, but it is an amino acid related to the health of skin and hair.
Beets are particularly rich in polyphenols and nitrate ions.
?? Spring sowing in March-April and autumn sowing in September-October.
