This sweet pepper, cultivated for over 100 years in the northeastern part of Nara City for farmers' own consumption, is certified as a Traditional Vegetable of Yamato.

The fruit is approximately 5cm long. The skin color is a glossy, deep purple, similar to eggplant, and it is highly productive. It turns red as it ripens further.

The flesh is thick and suitable for tsukudani (simmered in soy sauce) and stir-frying. It turns green when heated.

There is almost no spiciness, and the sweetness increases when fully ripened to red.
