Swainsona formosa

Rare and hard-to-find fresh seeds of the Sturt's Desert Pea!

Comes with germination instructions!

Swainsona formosa, also known as Sturt's Desert Pea, is a rare annual legume discovered in the Sturt Desert of Australia, known for its highly unique flowers (it can be perennial in its native habitat). Due to its striking flowers, it is the state flower of South Australia.

While not currently considered endangered, collecting specimens still requires permission from the Australian government, making the seeds difficult to obtain.

To survive the harsh desert environment with extreme temperature fluctuations, many individuals report cold tolerance down to -5°C. Its leaves are covered in fine hairs that capture even the slightest moisture from the air, making it a highly attractive legume that combines beauty with a strong survival spirit.

*For legume seeds, scarify the seed coat, soak in water, or soak in boiling water for one day to soften the seed coat before sowing.
