Japanese Holly Fern ⑥ For Ground Cover Seedlings

Japanese Holly Fern

Propagates very well.

Highly cold-hardy. While the above-ground parts die back in winter, it has overwintered even in Hokkaido (in areas with low snowfall).

The leaf color of this variety changes significantly depending on temperature, sunlight, and humidity. Selecting the right planting location is important for enjoying its beautiful silver leaves.

In shady and humid conditions, the leaves grow larger and the silver color develops well. The leaf color also appears to be more distinct during cooler periods. It is not particularly picky about soil type, but fertile soil will result in more vigorous growth and better color.
Please use commercially available potting soil.

Conversely, in sunny, dry, or poor soil conditions, the leaves tend to be smaller and the leaf color may not develop well.
Also, while the plant is small, it may not show its true colors, but a well-established plant in a suitable location will display wonderful leaf colors from budding to leaf fall.
