Upon arrival, it is necessary to plant them in moist soil and submerge them in water.
During the seedling stage, bright, semi-shaded conditions are recommended.

Temperate Water Lily (Native Species)
Germination rate over 90% (light-sensitive)
Can overwinter outdoors as long as the roots do not freeze.
Cannot be divided; propagates by seed.
Appears to be edible.
*As they are aquatic plants, both seedlings and seeds require underwater management.

Once they reach the size shown in the second image, they will disappear if not planted in soil to obtain nutrients.
Young seedlings are very small and this species is not suited for deep water.

- Mizu-kusa ① (Narrow petals, approx. 3cm diameter) Common Mizu-kusa.
① and ⑤ will maintain their cute appearance without the leaves or entire plant becoming huge, even after many years.
Leaf color: Young leaf color, maximum leaf length approx. 8cm.

- Mizu-kusa ② (Slightly wider petals, approx. 4cm diameter)
Leaf color: Slightly dark green, maximum leaf length approx. 12cm.

- Mizu-kusa ③ (Wide petals, approx. 5cm diameter) Very plump petals and flower silhouette. From the second year onwards, compared to smaller Mizu-kusa, it requires 2-3 times the space, soil volume, and pot depth.
Leaf color: Dark green, maximum leaf length approx. 15cm.

- Mizu-kusa ④ (Slightly wider petals, approx. 5cm diameter) After several years, the stamens will develop a reddish hue. Resembles Ezo-beni-mizu-kusa. Petals and flower shape are very beautiful.
Leaf color: Young leaf color, maximum leaf length of second-year leaves approx. 12cm.

- Mizu-kusa ⑤ (Slightly narrow petals, approx. 3cm diameter) Young leaves may sometimes have variegated patterns. Rare leaf type for Mizu-kusa. Flowering period: Longest, until late autumn.
Leaf color: Slightly dark green, maximum leaf length approx. 8cm.

Mizu-kusa (Perennial: Temperate Water Lily) is Japan's native (world's smallest) water lily.
Some individuals, depending on the plant, may bloom within 3 months or 6 months after germination if they have grown to maturity during the hot season.

Grows well in common soil + leaf mold, etc., that sinks easily in water free of herbicides and pesticides. (While they grow without as much fertilizer as Chawan-ren or Hime-suiren, larger pots with more soil and nutrients will lead to faster growth and earlier flowering.) Clay soil is not suitable for young seedlings.
Requires at least 5 hours of sunlight per day. Please keep them in a sunny location, being careful not to let the water dry out.
They are said to prefer a slightly cooler environment. In Saitama Prefecture (where our region has slightly lower temperatures), they thrive even in hot locations during midsummer.
After the rainy season ends, seedlings that remain submerged will require shading.
