A refined solid gold round case, understated Arabic numerals and railway index, and elegant blued steel hour and minute hands. The particularly beautiful leaf-shaped hour and minute hands, with their glamorous curves from base to tip, evoke meticulous and sophisticated craftsmanship. Overall, this Benson, with its highly accomplished design that epitomizes the orthodoxy of 1940s British watches, is surprisingly unique. This is because the case is exactly the same design as those adopted by Smith at the time.

The three-piece case with a stepped bezel, a recess where the crown is housed, and a distinctive design that emphasizes the round shape are very similar to the watch cases of the so-called early Smith of that era. This case was made by the Dennison Watch Case Company, which was used for many Rolex, Omega, and Smith wristwatches for the British market. It is extremely unusual for a watch handled by an établisseur other than Smith to use a watch case with a Smith design.
