Description
A rare early production model manufactured in May 1961 (Showa 36), the same month the Crown Special was released.
The Crown, first produced by Suwa Seikosha around 1959, was positioned as a mid-range model before the Grand Seiko was introduced. The Crown Special was created as its higher-grade counterpart.
This particular piece features a highly scarce SS (stainless steel) case, with overwhelmingly low production and remaining numbers. The dial has a sunburst finish. While there are noticeable age-related minor scratches and dial discoloration, it is an original silver dial. The dial is marked with the SD (Special Dial) emblem.
The watch was recently overhauled by a craftsman who retired from a famous Tokyo watch shop, Kinkodo. The overhaul was completed on the 12th of this month, and the daily rate has been adjusted to within ±10 seconds. During the service, the winding stem was replaced due to breakage, along with the crown. While the manual winding feel has significantly improved, a new genuine crown is included as a spare.
