Description
In this snowy region, Yagura Negi sprouts in early spring, even before other wild vegetables and flower seedlings. The tips of its dark green leaves push up the dead leaves as they emerge. In mid-May, bulbils, also known as side shoots, form. If you plant these bulbils in soil, they will root in about 10 days. Plant them about 2 cm deep and water them. They will multiply abundantly. This is a perennial vegetable that can overwinter even in the harsh winter with temperatures as low as -14℃. It seems to have been cultivated here since the Edo period. (It is also called Negi here in the past.) It has survived quietly in a corner of a rural field. It was close to being an endangered species. Since it is a leek that survives the winter, it has been planted for a long time in the Iwaizumi region of Iwate Prefecture, where Ryusendo Cave is located, and seems to have naturalized. It can be eaten almost all year round, except when it is withered in winter or when bulbils are forming. When it grows larger, it is the perfect thickness for yakitori skewers. It also multiplies by tillering, so when planted, it will tiller and multiply like Bōzu Shirazu Negi. If planted closely, it will grow thin, and if planted farther apart, it will grow thick. Extensive cultivation is fine. It grows well even with the cheapest chicken manure fertilizer from a home center.
It appears to be a mutant variety that does not produce leek seeds.
This leek may be a living fossil. It seems to be well-suited to our climate and multiplies abundantly. It is always vibrant.
It's an interesting leek.
Even if leeks become expensive in the market, if you cut off the tips, they will grow back quickly and can be eaten.
It can overwinter in planters even in the middle of winter here. It can also be grown on balconies in planters. It can also be used as a leaf leek.

When the top is cut off, new, soft green leeks will grow back immediately.

If it is too long, we will cut off the tip before shipping.
We ship with the tip cut off from April onwards.

To prevent steaming during transport, we deliberately do not add water and pack it in a dry state.

If you plan to plant it after it arrives, please water it thoroughly. If it rains and the soil is wet, it will root even if you plant it as is.
