Indigo Seedlings, 20 pcs + Bonus: Japanese Indigo (Tadeai), White Flower Koagofun, Red Flower Senbon, Good Rooting
These are young seedlings of indigo (Polygonum tinctorium) used for indigo dyeing and fresh leaf dyeing.
Seeds were sown in early April and are growing well.
Photo 5 shows commonly distributed indigo, photo 7 shows 'Shirobana Shirokon', and photo 6 shows the 'Senbon' variety.
'Shirobana Shirokon' was grown from seeds provided by an organic indigo farmer in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
'Senbon' was also grown from seeds from an organic indigo farmer in Tochigi Prefecture, and this variety produces red flowers.
All seedlings were grown without pesticides using Taki's Tanemaki Baido (seedling soil) in the seedling trays shown in photo 3.
As shown in photo 8, the root development is quite good.
Photos 9 and 10 show an image of repotting into pots, which can also be sold.
Leaf harvesting can be done up to 3 times in July.
Apply a small amount of fertilizer to the base of the plant each time you harvest.
If you wish to collect seeds, do not harvest the leaves. Allow the flowers to bloom from September to October, and you can collect seeds once they have withered.
Once you have collected seeds, you will be able to sow them yourself next year, so please give it a try.
We will carefully dig up 20 seedlings + bonus seedlings from the above, keeping some soil attached to the roots and moisturizing them for shipping.
If you have no specific preference, we will select one variety from the three types mentioned above and ship it.
Leaf harvesting in July can be done up to 3 times by applying a small amount of fertilizer to the base each time. (The first harvest will have the highest indigo content.)
We will ship from Chiba Prefecture using Nekoposu, which has a relatively fast delivery time.
Delivery is expected within 1 to 2 days.
Photo 11 shows an example of packaging for 20 seedlings.
The small bag in the center is an extra bonus, containing young seedlings.
Once you receive the seedlings, please transfer them to pots or planters as soon as possible, ideally in sets of 3 to 5.
As they have grown quite a bit, they can also be planted directly in the ground.
If planting directly, first wet the soil and water gently in the morning and evening until the roots are established.
Please understand that there is a possibility of damage to the seedlings during shipping.
If you prefer delivery via Takkyubin (courier service), we can also repot them into plastic pots and ship them as is. Please contact us if you have any such requests.
If you have any other questions about cultivation or concerns, please contact us in the comment section before purchasing, or via the transaction message after purchase.
We will be listing more items in the future, so we appreciate your continued support.
