[Brief Explanation]
In Japan, it is only caught in Toyama Prefecture, but there are also reports of its collection in Suruga Bay, Sagami Bay, and Enshu Nada. In Toyama Prefecture, this species is called Shira-ebi, but the standard Japanese name Shiro-ebi (Metapenaeopsis lata) refers to a small shrimp of the Penaeidae family.
Similar to the confusion between Shirouo and Shira-uo for fish, Shira-ebi and Shiro-ebi for shrimp can also be confusing.
Its taste is exquisite and it is praised as the Jewel of Toyama Bay.
