Crimson Swallowtail ☆ Specimen ☆ Okinawa
Thank you for looking! ☆
This is a specimen of a male and female pair of the Crimson Swallowtail butterfly. (*^^*)
[AI Description]
This butterfly is characterized by the vibrant red-orange color on the edges of its forewings (upper wings) and is one of the largest species of white butterflies found in Japan.
[How to distinguish male from female]
The difference between males and females can be mainly distinguished by the darkness of the wing patterns.
Male (photo above):
Ground color: The ground color of the wings is white and very vibrant.
Hindwings (lower wings): There are almost no black spots, giving an overall whitish and bright impression.
Female (photo below):
Ground color: Compared to males, it may have a slightly grayish or yellowish tint.
Pattern: Triangular black spots (black markings) are clearly arranged along the edges of the hindwings (lower wings). Also, black patterns are present within the orange color of the forewings, giving an overall darker impression than males.
As this is a very old specimen, the specimen box has scratches and scuffs.
Please be aware that there is handwriting on the back of the box (photo ④).
*The antennae of the upper butterfly are detached.
