Description
Scientific Name: Synagris cornuta

A remarkable wasp with branched, giant mandibles.
This is a species of solitary hunting wasp native to tropical Africa. It exhibits pronounced sexual dimorphism, with large males possessing mandibles that branch out like tusks, giving rise to its Japanese common name. Unlike other mud daubers, females build mud nests for their larvae and have the unique habit of feeding their larvae crushed moth larvae as needed, making them of interest from the perspective of the evolution of sociality in hunting wasps.

The head and thorax are brown, while the vertex of the head, compound eyes, mesoscutum, and abdomen are black. The antennae and mandibles are yellowish-brown. Some subspecies have yellowish-white markings on the abdomen. Male tusks also show dimorphism; the tusks of large males branch from near the base of the mandibles and extend forward, with the total length including the tusks reaching up to 4 cm. Small males have tusks that are merely knob-like protrusions and are not effective as weapons. Large males stake out nests believed to contain females nearing emergence and wait for them to hatch and leave the nest. If other males arrive during this time, they will attempt to grasp and throw them off with their tusks. The thrown-off males may immediately return to challenge again, or they may fly off in search of another nest.
The majority of mud daubers, after laying eggs, their larvae...

This is a 2024 work by Hirotaka Fukui, an insect specimen artist who no longer accepts new mounting requests. I believe this is a divine mounting and spreading that allows for zero compromise.
