【36mm】Blister Beetle, Central African Origin, Carabus beetle, Insect Specimen
Scientific Name: Mylabris pollas tricolor or Hycleus sp.?
Adults primarily feed on flowers from various families. The first instar larvae are active triungulinids that prey on soft-bodied insects like aphids. While the larvae can be beneficial to crops by suppressing other plant feeders, adults can be problematic when present in large numbers. Flower feeding can lead to reduced yields and can be an issue for some legume crops. However, these can be easily removed by hand.
In Northern Nigeria, outbreaks of Hycleus terminatus, Hycleus fimbriatus, Hycleus hermanniae, and Hycleus chevrolati have affected early plantings of pearl millet.
Recommended for their beautiful cream and red colors, resembling painted patterns!
