Scientific Name: Xylocopa confusa Xylocopa aestuans
Xylocopa aestuans (or Xylocopa (Koptortosoma) aestuans) is a species of carpenter bee. It is widely distributed in Southeast Asia.
This is a large bee, exceeding 20mm in body length. Historically, Xylocopa pubescens was sometimes treated as a subspecies of aestuans. These two taxa differ in their distribution, with X. aestuans being restricted to Southeast Asia, while X. pubescens is distributed across most of Africa and eastward to South Asia. There are also very clear, though subtle, differences in the morphology of males and females.
