This is a rare flower that blooms pure white in the early morning, turns a gentle cherry blossom pink as the temperature rises, and deepens to a rich crimson by evening.

It is said that Makino Tomitaro Hiroshi named it 酔芙蓉 (Suifuyo - drunken hibiscus) because its color changes as if it were drunk.

There are different types of Suifuyo.
Single, double, kusudama-shaped...
They are basically one-day flowers, but kusudama-shaped varieties have multiple flowers within the bud, so you can enjoy them for a second day.
This seedling was purchased 6 years ago as Kusudama Suifuyo.
The shape of the buds is unique.
The flowers also seem a little different.
Recently, I learned about Shichimen Fuyo.
There are various theories, which can be confusing...

The flowers in the photos all bloomed on trees grown from cuttings.

Flowers that bloom on the first day turn red by night.
The next morning, pure white flowers bloom, nestled beside them.
The color change of the flowers varies with the temperature difference, allowing you to enjoy unique flowers for several days.

It produces very attractive flowers, but it is a plant that is difficult to obtain in stores.

I am taking cuttings to share with those who like them.

I store the pruned branches from December until spring and then place them in water in March.

This seedling was propagated from a cutting last year. The roots have grown firmly, so it has been transplanted into a larger pot.

It has overwintered, and small leaves have begun to sprout.

The branches are currently being grown in water since April, waiting for roots to develop.
Roots grown in water have weak water absorption.
Please continue to enjoy watching the roots grow in water for a while longer.
The leaves grow better than the roots, so you will want to plant them in a pot, but please wait for about a month, changing the water daily if possible.

It is a hardy plant and grows to about 3-4 meters in a few years.

Cultivation in cold regions is difficult.
