Kagawa Lacquerware, Shikoku Carving is made by carving natural wood and applying lacquer.

*Kinpaku (Kinpaku)
Kinpaku, a representative of Kagawa lacquerware, is said to be named after the fruit of a plant from Thailand. It is a technique where patterns are carved with a chisel on a surface coated with multiple layers of lacquer, and colored lacquer is inlaid into the grooves. While the process of carving the lacquer surface is similar to Chinkin, it is a unique technique where the process of carving and filling is repeated for each color of red and yellow lacquer. Once all filling is complete, the surface is polished flat.

In the Kansai region, a container for cooked porridge or rice is generally called ohitsu, while in the Kanto region it is called ohachi.

Ohitsu is a container for transferring cooked rice.
Ohitsu were kitchen goods mainly used in the era when rice was cooked in a kamado (traditional stove) and a pot. Cooking rice in a pot was time-consuming, so rice was only cooked once or twice a day. Furthermore, it was difficult to carry the pot to the dining table. If the rice was not served immediately after cooking, it would burn onto the pot. Therefore, an ohitsu was necessary as a container for storing rice.

This product is finished by applying natural lacquer to a base made of carved natural wood and coating it multiple times.
Wooden rice containers help regulate moisture.
