I purchased this at a market in Laos around 1998.

This is a rice container used in Laos to serve or store steamed sticky rice, which is a staple food.
The container part is made of bamboo, and the legs are made of wood.
The darker color is due to smoking the bamboo to increase its durability.

This is a very beautiful traditional craft made with bamboo weaving, a specialty of Laos.

It has been displayed as a decorative item and has never been used as a rice container.
